Water AKA H2o (Dihydrogenate Monoxide) is an essential component of our body. About 60% of the human body is made up of water. In infants and children, this percentage is even greater.

In this post, we will see the importance of water, what happens when you don’t drink enough water? How much water one should drink and when? Ways to keep your water intake on track;

Why water is important?

1. It helps create saliva

2. It regulates your body temperature

3. It protects your tissues, spinal cord, and joints

4. It helps excrete waste through perspiration, urination, and defecation

5. It helps maximize physical performance

6. It helps with nutrient absorption

7. It improves blood oxygen circulation

8. It aids in weight loss

9. It helps to keep the skin good and bright

10. It aids in cognitive function

And many more…

What happens when you do not complete your daily water intake?

1. Drop in the energy levels and a decrease in performance

2. Mood swings, anxiety, fatigue, etc.

3. Digestion problems most likely constipation

4. Improper kidney functioning

5. Headaches

6. Dry skin and wrinkles etc.

How much water one should drink and when?

1. Different institutions refer different water intake for both men and women but a good range for adequate water intake for a person who exercises or is involved in any type of physical activity should have 5 – 7 liters of water per day.

2. Drinking 500 ml to 1000ml water after waking up is recommended for a healthy bowel movement.

3. Don’t wait till you feel thirsty; keep sipping water throughout the day.

Ways to keep your water intake on track:

1. Keep your water bottle handy.

2. If you don’t have a habit to drink more water then start incorporating it gradually. Increase one glass of water daily.

3. If you don’t like the taste of plain water then add some natural flavors to it by adding lemon slices, mints or any fruit slices, etc.

4. If you often forget to drink water then create a schedule, put an alarm for every half an hour on your phone or there are many water reminder apps available on play store, download the one which is convenient for you.
